A dramatic scene unfolded in Nairobi when a huge monitor lizard broke into a private home, sending the family into a panic. 

The family was left shocked and confused about how the massive reptile managed to enter their compound. They insisted there were no gaps or openings, as the entire property is surrounded by a high perimeter wall meant to keep such intruders out.

In the short clip that has since gone viral on several social media platforms, a woman is heard asking, “Leo afternoon I just realised a monitor lizard imeingia hapa by the way, iliingiaje? ilipitia wapi? Guys kuna mtu anajua njia ya kutoa huyu lizard by the way?”.

No harm was reported. Though Monitor Lizards are venomous reptiles, their mild toxins are rarely fatal to humans. 

They inject venom through fangs, secreting mild venom compounds from glands in their lower jaw that mix into their saliva.

For most species, the venom causes mild effects like localised pain, swelling, and extra bleeding, but it is not life-threatening to a healthy adult.

The biggest risk from a monitor lizard bite is bacterial infection, not the venom itself, as their mouths carry many bacteria that can cause severe wounds if not cleaned and treated by a doctor.

Monitor lizards can grow very large and may become dangerous if they feel threatened. Experts say that while monitor lizards are generally not aggressive, they should never be handled without proper training.
