A brave German Shepherd dog helped catch a phone thief in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, after the suspect snatched a mobile phone from a Chinese man.

According to witnesses, the incident happened in the morning when a motorbike rider allegedly grabbed the phone from the victim and tried to speed away. 

A German Shepherd that was being walked nearby saw the commotion, ran after the suspect, and chased him down before he could escape.

Video footage showed the dog clamping its teeth onto the suspect’s trousers and pinning him to the ground near the roadside. 
The dog did not bite the man but held on tightly until its handler lifted it away to free the suspect’s leg.

As a crowd gathered, some residents spoke angrily to the suspect. One voice was heard saying, “Ras, you cannot just want easy things while your mates are hustling, these are the people spoiling the names of boda boda men.”

Boda boda operators in the area also took action. They opened the motorbike the suspect had been using and began removing its parts, saying they would not let one person’s actions bring shame on their trade.

With his clothes dishevelled from the dog’s firm hold, the suspect eventually admitted his wrongdoing. “I will not steal again,” he said quietly.

The riders then spoke with the Chinese national to confirm whether he had recovered his phone, while some residents continued to scold the suspect for trying to steal in such a bold way.

Netizens were impressed by the dog’s quick action and loyalty. The incident showed how a well-trained dog can be of help.
