Guardian Angel has become one of the few Kenyan musicians to surpass one million subscribers on YouTube, reaching the milestone years after he began building his audience on the platform.

The gospel singer, whose real name is Peter Omwaka, announced the achievement on his official YouTube channel, thanking his fans for their support.

His wife and manager, Esther Musila, has previously documented the channel’s growth, including its achievement of 100,000 subscribers in September 2020.

Guardian Angel’s YouTube catalogue includes popular gospel songs such as Nimependa, Kuongozwa, Yesu Sio Mwizi and Nadeka, which have helped grow his audience on the platform.

The one-million mark earns the singer YouTube’s Gold Creator Award milestone, which is awarded to channels that reach one million subscribers.

Guardian Angel now joins a select group of Kenyan musicians whose YouTube channels have crossed the seven-figure mark.

Otile Brown has previously been reported as the first Kenyan musician to reach one million YouTube subscribers, while Bahati also crossed the milestone. Willy Paul has similarly built a channel with more than one million subscribers.

The milestone also comes as Kenyan musicians increasingly use YouTube as a major platform for distributing music and reaching audiences beyond traditional radio and television.

Outside music, several Kenyan media, comedy and entertainment channels have also surpassed one million subscribers, reflecting the growing importance of YouTube in the country’s digital entertainment industry.
