Buffalo Bills Celebrate Their Canadian Fanbase with Toronto Thanksgiving Event

The Buffalo Bills are bringing a little of Buffalo to Toronto this Canadian Thanksgiving, celebrating their growing Canadian fanbase with a special event at the El Mocambo on October 12. The inaugural Give Thanks, Go Long celebration will combine football, live music, food and community fundraising, offering a distinctly Toronto experience for fans of one of the NFL’s most recognizable franchises.

Presented by Uber Eats, the one-night event will feature a pregame performance by Toronto punk rock band PUP, appearances by ETalk co-host Tyrone Edwards and visual artist Briony, food from McEwan Catering, limited-edition Peace Collective merchandise and special fan experiences. Former Buffalo Bills and CFL quarterback Doug Flutie, a Heisman Trophy winner, will also attend.

While the evening promises plenty of entertainment, it also reflects something much larger: the longstanding relationship between the Buffalo Bills and their Canadian supporters.

According to Kate Hussmann, Chief Strategy Officer for the Buffalo Bills, between 15 and 20 per cent of fans attending Bills home games come from Canada. Approximately 12 per cent of the team’s Personal Seat Licence (PSL) holders are Canadian, while Canadians account for nearly 20 per cent of the waiting list.

“When you combine Buffalo with the Greater Toronto Area, it’s a top five NFL market,” Hussmann told Toronto Guardian.

Those figures help explain why the Bills continue to invest in connecting with fans north of the border.

“There’s definitely a natural connection between Buffalo and Toronto. We’re geographically close, and Bills fans have been making the trip across the border in both directions for years,” said Hussmann. “But it really comes down to the fans. Toronto fans have embraced the Bills and the culture around the team.”

For Hussmann, the connection extends beyond the football field. Whether Canadian supporters are travelling to Orchard Park, attending local Bills Backers gatherings or connecting with other fans, she says the sense of community is central to the team’s identity.

“We’ve been fortunate to see that community grow in Toronto, and it’s a big part of why the relationship feels so genuine. Once you become part of the Bills community, there’s a real sense that you’re part of something bigger than just the team on the field.”

Bringing the Bills Experience to Toronto

Rather than simply recreating a Buffalo game-day watch party in Canada, the organization wanted Give Thanks, Go Long to reflect Toronto’s cultural identity.

“We wanted this to feel like it belonged in Toronto, not like we’d just taken a Buffalo watch party and dropped it across the border,” Hussmann explained.

That approach influenced everything from the venue to the performers and local partnerships.

The El Mocambo, located at 464 Spadina Avenue, was selected for its history as one of Toronto’s best-known live music venues.

“The El Mocambo felt like a great fit because it has such a strong identity,” said Hussmann. “It’s a recognizable Toronto venue with a long history of bringing people together around music and entertainment, and we wanted the event to feel like a night out in Toronto rather than a traditional game-day watch party.”

The evening’s Canadian talent and partners were selected to represent different aspects of Toronto’s music, entertainment, fashion and food communities.

Uber Eats will also spotlight local merchants, including North of Brooklyn pizza, and deliver surprises throughout the celebration.

“When you put it all together—football, music, food, community, and giving back—it starts to feel like a night that could only really happen in Toronto,” Hussmann said.

Giving Back This Thanksgiving

The event will also support Second Harvest, the Canadian food rescue organization working to redirect surplus food to communities experiencing food insecurity.

All ticket proceeds will benefit the charity, building on an existing relationship between the Bills and Second Harvest.

Hussmann explained that the partnership aligns with the Buffalo Bills Foundation’s work addressing food insecurity in Western New York.

“We are interested in supporting similar causes in Canada, as we do here in Western New York,” she said. “Given the Buffalo Bills’ Foundation focus on tackling food insecurity in our region, we really value their work in Canada and have created a great partnership.”

The Thanksgiving timing adds particular relevance to the charitable initiative, connecting the celebration of football and community with efforts to improve food access.

Could This Become a Canadian Thanksgiving Tradition?

Although Give Thanks, Go Long is making its debut this year, the Bills are already considering its potential as a recurring celebration.

“We’re excited about this first Give Thanks, Go Long, and we hope that this can become our annual tradition,” said Hussmann. “We’re always looking for ways to bring the Bills experience to our Canadian fan base, so we certainly see potential to build on what we’re doing here.”

The organization has already been expanding its Canadian outreach through youth football programming, watch parties, merchandise collaborations and other cross-border initiatives.

For Hussmann, the goal is to ensure Canadian fans understand how much their support means to the franchise.

“We want them to leave feeling that the Bills genuinely value and appreciate them, and the relationship we’ve built over the years,” she said. “We know Bills fans are across Canada, and Toronto is an important part of that community. This event is an opportunity to say thank you, have fun together, and hopefully give fans another reason to feel connected to the team.”
