Kenyans are once again talking about a Rigathi Gachagua lookalike, this time a man spotted working as a security guard.
A short video shared by a local blog shows the man standing near a roadside, with viewers pointing out his resemblance to the former deputy president.
The clip has since attracted comments and jokes from social media users, with some saying the guard could easily pass for Gachagua.
The report said the video was shared in a light-hearted manner, but it has renewed interest in people who bear a striking resemblance to the former deputy president.
This is not the first Gachagua lookalike to attract attention online.
Earlier this year, US-based Kenyan content creator Cyrus Kinuthia, popularly known as “Riggy G Junior”, gained attention for his resemblance to Gachagua. The two later met in Seattle.
The identity and exact location of the security guard featured in the latest video have not been confirmed.
The phenomenon of unrelated people looking remarkably alike, known as doppelgängers, has been studied by scientists. A 2022 study published in Cell Reports examined 32 pairs of people who looked remarkably similar and found that some of the pairs shared genetic variants linked to facial features, despite not being related.
However, researchers noted that an exact facial match remains extremely rare.
The resemblance can also be influenced by how the human brain recognises familiar facial patterns, making similarities between two people appear stronger than they may be when closely examined.
