Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s youngest daughter, Sandra Mbuvi, has formally entered the political arena after declaring her candidacy for the Karura Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Westlands ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The UK-based university student announced her political debut on the ticket of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), an organization led by her father.

Popularly known as “Thicky Sandra,” the aspiring representative explained that while she initially considered vying for the nearby Kitisuru Ward seat, she chose to pivot to Karura Ward to establish a closer connection with community members and address local priorities directly.

Her campaign platform places heavy emphasis on civic improvement, prioritizing expanded opportunities for young people, economic support for women, better access to essential healthcare services, educational advancement, and greater administrative accountability.

Her entry into civic life sparked lively debates across social media platforms, drawing reactions that ranged from enthusiastic public support to lighthearted jokes and questions about her readiness for public service.

This decision also signals a broader family effort in regional governance.

On September 21, her older sister, Saumu Mbuvi, revealed her own ambitions to run for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat under the same NEDP banner.

Saumu’s platform similarly targets youth employment, female enterprise, skill development, and urban social protection programs.

Together with figures like dancehall artist KRG The Don, who is pursuing the Nairobi senatorial seat on the same party ticket, the Sonko family appears to be building a unified electoral push across the capital ahead of the upcoming polls.
