On Friday, September 4, 2026, Nyandarua Senator John Methu visited ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga at his Nairobi home, bringing gifts of livestock as a sign of goodwill.

Methu led a small delegation to Oburu’s residence in Kitisuru and presented him with two goats and two rams. In a social media post, Methu said he was happy to find his colleague “in high spirits” during the morning check-in. 

Photos from the visit, shared by Methu, showed the gesture as part of efforts to support Oburu while he continues to rest and recover at home.

The visit comes after weeks of concern over Oburu’s health.

Reports said he was first admitted to a Nairobi hospital around August 23, discharged on August 27, then readmitted after feeling unwell again. 

Some accounts linked the admissions to severe fatigue, with doctors advising rest.

There were also unverified claims that his family was considering specialized treatment in the UK, though these were not confirmed.By early September, Oburu had been discharged and was recuperating at home. 

He told the public he was “very well,” explaining that his hospital trip was only for a general check-up and that being sick is normal and should not cause alarm. 

He added that he would openly inform Kenyans if he were seriously ill.

Methu’s visit follows earlier courtesy calls to Oburu. In October 2025, Methu and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa visited Oburu at home and gifted him three white sheep, calling it a traditional sign of peace and friendship between Mt Kenya and Nyanza leaders. 

In Kenyan culture, giving livestock to elders or senior leaders is a respected way to show honour, goodwill, and wishes for long life.
Since his discharge, Oburu has also hosted other visitors, including a Senate Energy Committee delegation, as he continues to rest
