Nine-year-old Charlotte Muritala from Ofa, Kwara State, has gained attention for her passion for mathematics and her efforts to teach other children through TikTok.

The JSS2 student developed an interest in mathematics from a young age, saying her love for numbers has continued to grow over the years.

Charlotte, in a recent interview with Channels Television, said, “I started liking mathematics since when I was small. I love mathematics because I enjoy numbers.”

For the young mathematics enthusiast, solving mathematical problems is not just an academic exercise but something she genuinely enjoys.

“Mathematics is fun for me. Some questions are hard, but I like solving them,” she said.

Charlotte also explained how she approaches difficult questions, saying she breaks them down into smaller parts before solving them step by step.

“First, I like breaking them into small part. That makes it easier for me. So I break it into small part, then I solve it,” she said.

According to her, she does not give up when she encounters a difficult problem. Instead, she looks for a suitable method and works through the question gradually.

“Once I start solving the hard problem, if I am not getting it, I will go and choose the best method and start solving it step by step,” Charlotte said.

Her passion for mathematics has also extended to social media, where she shares what she knows with other children.

Charlotte revealed that her mother created an online platform to help her reach a wider audience and share her mathematics knowledge.

“My mum created another platform for me to share what I know to other children. I feel very happy and proud of myself,” she said.

Charlotte’s mathematics teacher described her as an exceptional student with a strong passion for solving mathematical problems.

“She is a brilliant and erudite student. Before taking someone as erudite, that means that person has exceptional skills in Mathematics,” the teacher said.

The teacher added that Charlotte stands out because of her enthusiasm and ability to tackle mathematical problems.

“She has passion for solving mathematical problems. In all, she is an excellent and outstanding student,” the teacher said.

The teacher also called for greater support for children with exceptional academic abilities, saying qualified teachers, scholarships and proper funding could help more students develop an interest in mathematics.

“If you want students to have interest in mathematics, secure the services of qualified teachers, give them scholarships and proper funding,” the teacher said.

Charlotte, meanwhile, advised other children struggling with mathematics to remain persistent and learn from their mistakes.

“My advice to them is to never give up. They should keep practising every day and don’t be afraid of mistakes,” she said.
