A deadly crash captured on video in Nyamira County has sparked public concern over the dangers of holding open-air religious services near busy roads.
The incident occurred at Ikonge Main Stage near Tumaini Highway Hotel, where a passenger minibus reportedly lost control and ploughed into a crowd of worshippers.
Video footage seen by TNX Africa captured the moment the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the unsuspecting congregation.
Initial reports indicated that several people died at the scene, although emergency responders were still verifying the final casualty toll as investigations continued.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over the safety of roadside gatherings, with Kenyans on social media questioning the lack of protective measures around busy transport corridors.

The absence of barriers or designated pedestrian areas leaves worshippers, including children, exposed to vehicles travelling along busy roads.
The incident has also highlighted broader road safety challenges in regional trading centres, where pedestrian spaces often overlap with fast-moving traffic.
The crash has prompted calls for local authorities to restrict high-risk gatherings along public roads and require religious events to be held in safer, controlled spaces such as church compounds or school grounds.
