Former US President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones and is causing him significant pain, according to his son, Hunter Biden.

In an interview with the BBC, Hunter said the cancer had metastasised beyond his father’s bones and had become increasingly painful and debilitating.

“The cancer has spread, metastasised into his bones and further,” Hunter said. “It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”

Hunter became emotional while discussing his 83-year-old father’s health, saying it was difficult for the family to watch him battle the disease.

“It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch,” he said.

Despite his condition, Hunter said Biden remained active and continued to speak publicly about issues he cares about.

“He’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing. He so believes in this country,” Hunter said.

Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025, shortly after leaving the White House.

His office said at the time that the cancer had already spread to his bones.

Biden, who served as the 46th US president from 2021 to 2025, withdrew his bid for a second term in July 2024.

He was succeeded by Donald Trump, who won the November 2024 presidential election.

Hunter’s latest disclosure provides a rare public update on Biden’s health, as the former president has largely kept his medical condition private.

His diagnosis raised widespread concern because prostate cancer that has spread to the bones is considered advanced disease.

Hunter said the family had remained focused on supporting Biden as he undergoes treatment, while acknowledging the emotional toll of seeing his health deteriorate.

Despite his illness, Biden has continued to make occasional public appearances and engage with political and social issues.
