Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has expressed his gratitude after attending President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto’s traditional Kalenjin wedding ceremony, Koito, describing the experience as an “absolute honour and privilege”.
The Harare-based entrepreneur took to social media to share highlights from the high-profile event, posting images of himself and his wife alongside Charlene, her partner Isaya Yunge, President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto.
Chivayo praised President Ruto, describing him as a “leader par excellence” while commending his administration’s efforts in economic development, infrastructure, housing and agriculture.
“I salute the development you continue to champion across Kenya and the tremendous energy with which you continue working to move this beautiful country forward,” he said.
Beyond politics and governance, Chivayo highlighted the family atmosphere at the ceremony, praising President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto for their humility and strong family values despite their demanding public roles.
He also congratulated Charlene on her union and wished her well in the next chapter of her life.
“May God Almighty bless this wonderful new chapter with love, peace, understanding, prosperity, and endless happiness,” he said.
The flashy ceremony, held on Saturday, August 8, brought together prominent political figures, dignitaries and family members from across East Africa.
Koito is an important Kalenjin cultural ceremony that formally brings together the bride and groom’s families and provides an opportunity for the bride to receive blessings ahead of the wedding.
Guests and venue decorations featured vibrant African prints and earthy motifs, reflecting the ceremony’s cultural theme.
Among the high-profile attendees were Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Chivayo is the founder of Intratrek Zimbabwe, a company involved in renewable energy projects, including solar and hydroelectric power developments.
According to the company’s website, it undertakes initiatives aimed at improving Zimbabwe’s electricity supply.
