Chaos erupted at Multimedia University (MMU) Rongai campus when a troop of aggressive baboons invaded the girls’ hostels.

In a video seen by TNX, terrified students were captured exiting their hostel rooms and scampering to safety as baboons followed them, with some climbing onto balconies.

From inside the hostel rooms, faint screams from the students can be heard in the background.

Outside, the baboons roamed freely, some unbothered by the noise and commotion they caused.

Following the viral video, netizens quickly flooded social media with mixed reactions.

@sayrahfash commented, “Actually I think we humans invaded their land that’s why they keep coming back especially rongai.”

@kray katee, posted, “They are looking for food.”

@yaall_n33d_bobbie_, added, “Hyo ni manzi ya jonte ako na mbio hvo”

The incident highlights growing human-wildlife conflict in Ongata Rongai, which borders scrubland where baboon troops roam amid expanding urban development.

Earlier this year, concerns also emerged after lions were spotted roaming freely in Rongai, with footage captured on CCTV.

One of the lions was reported to have attacked dogs in a residential neighbourhood.

The older lioness was believed to be the mother of two sub-adult lions that were also seen on the loose. At the time of its capture, rangers noted that the lioness had several distinct injuries, suggesting a possible encounter with civilians in the greater Rongai area.

With Nairobi National Park being the only national park in the world located within a city, the unique setting continues to heighten the risk of human-wildlife encounters.

Experts are now pointing to poor waste management and habitat loss, while calling on the Kenya Wildlife Service to intervene and curb incidents that could escalate further.
