The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated elder statesman and member of the Governance Advisory Council, Otunba Busura Alebiosu, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Alebiosu, who is also the Chairman of the Council of Otunbas of Ijebuland and holds the traditional title of Otunba Gbelegbuwa of Ijebuland, will clock 90 on Friday, April 24.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described Alebiosu as a “stabiliser and leader of leaders” who has made significant contributions to politics and governance in Lagos State.
The governor also praised the nonagenarian for his decades-long involvement in public service and party politics, noting his influence in shaping the political landscape of the state since the beginning of the Fourth Republic.
“On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke, family, the government and the people of Lagos State, as well as leaders and members of our dear party, All Progressives Congress, I celebrate our elder statesman and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Otunba Busura Alebiosu, on his 90th birthday,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He recalled Alebiosu’s political journey, including his time as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Somolu/Kosofe State Constituency, and his participation in Lagos politics from the era of Sir Michael Otedola through the aborted Third Republic to the present democratic dispensation.
“Baba Alebiosu has kept faith with the political process since the time when he was elected as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly… He has been an active participant in Lagos politics from the Sir Michael Otedola era through the aborted Third Republic to the current Fourth Republic,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu further described him as “one of our leading lights,” adding that Alebiosu embodies rare leadership qualities.
“He is one of our leading lights. I see Baba Bush as a stabiliser—a man with tremendous experience and a wealth of knowledge. More importantly, he is calm, respectable, yet humble. I see qualities of leadership in him that are rare among political leaders,” he added.
The Governor prayed for continued good health and a sound mind for the celebrant.
“I pray for good health in the remainder of your years, in sound mind and clarity of thought, with the ability to continue to lead us and lead us well… As you grow older, you will continue to live with your head held high,” he said.
