The Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, has announced the introduction of an Agege Residents Card aimed at improving service delivery and targeting government interventions to verified residents.
Obasa disclosed this in a post on X on Tuesday, describing the initiative as a structured approach to enhance planning and ensure inclusivity in governance.
“Introducing the Agege Residents Card: A structured approach to better serve our people and deliver targeted impact,” he said.
According to him, the initiative is designed to identify and register residents within the council area, ensuring that social and economic programmes reach the intended beneficiaries.
“This initiative is designed to identify and register actual residents of Agege, ensuring that government interventions reach those they are meant for,” he stated.
The chairman explained that the card would categorise residents into different groups to enable more effective policy implementation.
“With a clear classification system: Red: Persons with disabilities; Yellow: Poor and vulnerable; Blue: General residents, we are able to differentiate beneficiaries, improve planning, and deliver more effective economic empowerment programmes,” he said.
He added that the card would grant holders access to various social services, including healthcare and welfare support.
“The Residents Card will also provide access to welfare support, health services, drug relief funding, and other community benefits,” Obasa noted.
Beyond immediate benefits, he said the initiative would strengthen the council’s data systems and support future development programmes.
“This is about structure, accountability, and making sure no one who truly needs support is left behind,” he added.
Obasa also revealed that the programme would play a role in upcoming initiatives such as subsidised transportation within the area.
“Looking ahead, it will support initiatives like subsidised green transportation on key routes, ensuring inclusive and affordable mobility for our people,” he said.
