Popular motorsport hypeman Dennis Spinner, better known as “MC wa Magari”, has found himself in the eye of a storm after he shared a photo posing next to George Ruto, President William Ruto’s son.

Spinner, who has built a loyal following in Kenya’s car culture scene, became an instant trend on X after sharing a photo taken during the Sunset Corsa held over the weekend in Nairobi.

In the image, he posed with George Ruto, captioning it, “George Ruto in for sunset corsa. MC wa magari 100.”

This moment, however, did not sit well with netizens, who accused him of cosying up to the political elite despite previously appearing critical in the wake of the deadly protests.

Netizens “cooked” him in X fashion, digging up his past posts, particularly from June 2024, when he had spoken emotionally about a friend who was allegedly shot during the Finance Bill protests.

Caught in the crossfire, Spinner did little to de-escalate the situation.

He fired back at critics, dismissing them as “jealous” and “bitter,” further fueling the online chaos.

Nonetheless, a section of Kenyans came to his defence, arguing that snapping photos with high-profile figures is common, even among those who may hold differing political views.

Spinner has, however, since deleted the tweet.

On Facebook, the post remains up and with kinder comments, giving a sharp contrast to the X post.

The Sunset Corsa is the flagship event organised by Daimlar Motorsports Kenya, renowned as the premier championship drag race in East Africa.

This exhilarating event unites top-tier motor competitors from esteemed garages and car clubs, showcasing their expertise and passion for motorsports.
