Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has declared a dramatic personal transformation, saying he has ditched his flamboyant lifestyle in favour of health, discipline and self-reflection.

In a candid revelation, Sonko said he no longer frequents clubs, has stepped away from dating, and has overhauled his diet, cutting out chapati, rice, ugali and fried foods altogether.

“I am no longer clubbing, and I am not interested in girls anymore. Right now, I am focusing on my health and life,” he said.

The politician, once synonymous with flashy displays and nightlife, shared that his new routine is centred on wellness and preventive care.

Accompanied by two medical practitioners, Sonko publicly underwent a series of health checks, including blood pressure, glucose levels and an HIV test, which all came back negative.

“What I want to tell you is that health is very important. Kupima pressure ni bure, glucose (diabetes)… hii kitambi imekatika,” he said, noting his visible weight loss.

“You won’t see me in clubs these days because I am working on my health.”

He warned Kenyans against poor dietary habits, particularly excessive consumption of oily foods and refined carbohydrates, saying many people underestimate the risks until it is too late.

“Unapata tu mtu ameanguka kumbe pressure iko juu,” he cautioned, urging regular medical check-ups.

True to his larger-than-life persona, Sonko’s health awareness moment still carried a touch of his trademark generosity.

Before the two healthcare workers left, he handed them wads of cash, instructing them to tithe and pray for him and their families.

The move sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising his apparent lifestyle change and health advocacy, while others questioned whether the gestures were yet another display of his well-known tokenism.

“Great initiative at a time when the public is having conversations about leaders’ health. Also, your weight loss is very visible. Very inspiring for leaders and wananchi alike! Way to go,” Kelitu Ka Mwanza wrote on Facebook.
