Aspiring Nairobi Woman Representative Millicent Omanga has publicly thrown her support behind James Gakuya in the race for the Nairobi governorship, signalling early political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a video circulating widely on social media, Omanga is seen pledging full support to the Embakasi North MP, assuring him of strong backing from sections of voters in the capital.

“Kura za Wakisii nitakupea 101%, sisi wote tunakusupport!” Omanga declared in the clip, expressing confidence that the community would rally behind Gakuya’s bid.

James Gakuya, who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Embakasi North, has increasingly been mentioned as a potential contender for the Nairobi governorship.

The legislator is considered a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and is expected to seek the seat under the banner of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

His entry into the race adds to the growing list of politicians positioning themselves for control of the capital city.

Omanga’s endorsement also reflects her shifting political alliances.

Once closely associated with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership, the former nominated senator has recently joined the united opposition camp, actively participating in opposition meetings and campaign activities.

Her support for Gakuya now places the two leaders on the same political side as they both seek influential positions in Nairobi’s leadership.

The contest for the Nairobi governorship is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive races in the country.

Among those expected to battle for the seat is Babu Owino, the outspoken Embakasi East MP who has hinted at challenging the incumbent.

The current governor, Johnson Sakaja, is also likely to seek re-election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown in Kenya’s capital.
