Two stepsons Brandon Githinji (29) and Bernard Lee Ngugi (22) will now face murder charges after their 54-year-old-step dad succumbed to injuries inflicted two months ago.
The two reportedly attacked Nicholas Kamau on the night of Dec. 24, 2025 in Umoja area in, Nairobi, in what is said to be a family dispute that escalated into violence an incident that left him in ICU for months until his death.
Nicholas Kamau Kagecho, 54 is believed to have suffered a brutal assault on that night in an attack that left him with life-threatening injuries, prompting an emergency rush to Metropolitan Hospital. Later doctors soon transferred him to Kenyatta National Hospital’s (KNH) ICU due to his deteriorating condition.
Police swiftly investigated the incident, uncovering a heated domestic conflict at its core. They identified two step-sons Brandon Githinji and Benard as the prime suspects, the assault arose from unresolved family tensions that boiled over into savagery.
“Following his death, the case has now taken a new legal dimension. Authorities have confirmed that the charges against the two suspects will be upgraded. Brandon Githinji and Benard Lee Ngugi will now face murder charges contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code” stated DCI.
Detectives arrested the pair on December 28, 2025, and arraigned them via a miscellaneous application for remand orders.
This allowed further probes while Kagecho battled for life. For over two months, medical teams at KNH fought valiantly to save him, but the wounds proved fatal. On March 6, 2026, Kagecho passed away, marking a sorrowful conclusion to his ordeal.
Medical reports confirmed grievous harm under Section 234 of the Penal Code, leading to formal charges. The court remanded them at Industrial Area Remand Prison.
With his death, the case has escalated dramatically. Prosecutors will now upgrade the charges to murder under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations wrap up and legal formalities proceed. Justice now pivots toward accountability in this heart-breaking saga.
