The family of the late Amos Rotich, an officer with the Kenya Forest Service, has paid a heartfelt tribute to their loved one following his tragic death in the Nandi plane crash.

Rotich was among six people who lost their lives in the accident, including Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno.

During a requiem mass for the victims at the African Gospel Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the family shared painful details about Rotich’s final moments.

Speaking on their behalf, family representative Richard Chepkwony revealed that the 23-year-old officer survived the crash for approximately 30 minutes.

Chepkwony recounted that despite the severity of the accident, Rotich attempted to get out of the crash scene and remained conscious for some time.

In those moments, he was reportedly concerned about the fate of the MP who had been travelling with him.

“At the plane crash, Amos tried to get out of the scene, and he was the one who survived for at least 30 minutes. Upon interrogation, he only asked a question: Where is Mheshimiwa? And when he was told that he had died, he also said that if Mheshimiwa had died, there was no reason for him to live,” Chepkwony said.

The family described Rotich as a dedicated and responsible young man who had already taken up the role of breadwinner. As the secondborn in a family of six, he played a crucial role in supporting his siblings and parents.

Though he had served at the Kenya Forest Service for less than one and a half years, they said he carried out his duties with commitment and pride.

His untimely death has left the family devastated, remembering him not only as a hardworking officer but also as a loving son and brother whose life was cut tragically short.
