WAFCON build-up: Super Falcons step up preparations with full camp in Yaoundé

By Enitan Abdultawab

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have boosted their squad ahead of their double-header friendly against Cameroon, with more key players arriving at camp in Yaoundé.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie and Osinachi Ohale, as well as forward Chinwendu Ihezuo, joined the team at their Hilton Hotel base, taking the number of players in camp to 24. The quartet are expected to link up with the rest of the squad in training as preparations intensify.

Earlier, captain Rasheedat Ajibade and 16 other players had already settled in camp and held their first training session at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadu Ahidjo annex. The team is also scheduled to train at the main stadium in Yaoundé ahead of the fixtures.

The Falcons will take on the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in two friendly matches at the Military Stadium, Yaoundé, with the first encounter slated for Saturday and the second billed for Tuesday next week.

Both teams are using the matches to fine-tune strategies ahead of the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to hold in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

Nigeria, the reigning African champions and 10-time title holders, will compete in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and tournament debutants Malawi. The Falcons open their campaign against Malawi on March 18 in Casablanca.

Cameroon, runners-up in 2016, have been drawn in Group D with Ghana, Mali and Cape Verde, and will begin their tournament against Mali in Fes.

Meanwhile, additional players, including Mexico-based wing-back Chidinma Okeke and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde, are expected to complete the squad as the team puts finishing touches to its preparations.

The friendlies are seen as crucial tests for the nine-time African champions as they aim to defend their continental crown in Morocco.
