Renowned gospel musician James Ngaita, popularly known as Jimmy Gait is currently receiving medical treatment after surviving a violent encounter with armed thugs on Sunday morning.
The incident, which happened around 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 22, in Runda, was confirmed in a social media post by gospel DJ Muraya, popularly known as DJ Mo.
He urged fans to pray for Gait and warned against exploitation, as the attackers had stolen the musician’s phone.
“Very sad manze. Guys, let’s pray for @jimmygaitofficial. He was brutally attacked by thugs this morning at around 10 a.m. around Runda. His phone was taken. Be aware of any exploitation because they took his phone. Now receiving treatment at St. Teresa Thindigua,” DJ Mo wrote, accompanying the post with a video of Gait.
The distressing video showed a visibly shaken and bloodied Gait recounting the harrowing experience, noting that the attackers seriously injured his hands.
“They have hurt me so badly. They’ve cut my fingers and my hand is cut,” Gait narrated. “It is only by God’s grace that I have survived. I saw death with my own eyes.”
The attack has sparked a wave of sympathy online, with fans and fellow entertainers expressing concern over rising insecurity.
Radio personality Mzazi Willy Tuva wrote, “Pole sana Jimmy. Insecurity is now getting out of hand,” while Silva Mistarish added, “Prayers up @jimmygaitofficial pole sana.”
Jimmy Gait remains one of Kenya’s most influential gospel figures, having risen to national stardom with the massive hit “Muhadhara.”
He solidified his legacy with chart-toppers such as “Hurai,” “Appointment,” and “Kuna Day.”
Known for his ability to blend contemporary urban sounds with spiritual messages, Gait has remained a household name for over a decade.
