A dramatic video has captured the moment President William Ruto’s security detail acted swiftly to intercept a man who ran towards him mid-speech.

The shocking incident, which has since gone viral on social media, occurred during the President’s official visit to Wajir.

In the clip, the unidentified man is seen sprinting toward the podium just as the President was concluding his remarks.

In what appeared to be a desperate attempt to address the Head of State personally, the man bypassed the outer security rings and made a direct line for the President.

Before he could reach his target, one of the officers attached to Ruto’s escort reacted with precision.

In not so long, Ruto’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC), dressed in full military fatigue, rushed in.

Other close-protection officers immediately swung into action thereafter to assist in restraining the man and whisking him away.

Clearly startled, President Ruto turned back to see the commotion behind him.

Upon realizing the man had been subdued, he momentarily de-escalated the tension with his trademark calm. “Ala! Pole, pole. Kaa hapo nitakuongelesha,” (Oh! Sorry, sorry. Sit there, I will speak to you), Ruto said, before resuming his composure.

This is not the first breach; in May 2025, an individual in Migori County hurled a shoe that struck the President’s arm, prompting a massive security scramble and three subsequent arrests.

The President has also shown frustration with his own handlers, such as in Nyeri in January 2026, when he physically pushed aside an officer who blocked him from shaking hands.

Ruto’s safety is managed by the Presidential Escort Unit, an elite wing of the GSU consisting of the inner circle and the Recce Squad, who are trained in Israeli-style Krav Maga.

These specialists work alongside the Aide-de-Camp from the Kenya Defence Forces to provide a constant shadow, balancing the President’s desire for public interaction with rigorous counter-terrorism tactics.
