Residents of Kwa Mwatu Village in Matuu, Machakos woke up to shock after discovering a small child’s coffin left on the front door of a deserted home.

The incident, captured in a Facebook video seen by TNX Africa, prompted an immediate gathering of alarmed neighbors who speculated that witchcraft might be involved.

In response, the community reported the matter to the local chief and MCA, and called for Bishop Morris Kikului of Yatta Redeemed Gospel Church for spiritual intervention.

“Last night, someone brought a small child’s coffin and placed it outside a home where no one lives. When I arrived, the residents were full of fear, thinking the devil himself had visited their village. But through God’s word, their hearts were calmed,” Bishop Kikului said.

Accompanied by local residents, the bishop set the brown casket ablaze after prayers.

While many suspected witchcraft, Bishop Kikului suggested that the incident was orchestrated by fraudulent religious leaders.

According to him, some pastors use such stunts to instill fear in households, then demand large sums for “cleansing prayers.”

“I explained to them that this was not the work of the devil but of someone with a purpose. There are pastors who scare people by placing occult items in homes and later claim God revealed the problem to them. They exploit citizens for money and deceive the faithful,” he said.

In his remarks, Bishop Kikului urged the government to enforce stricter regulations to prevent exploitation.

“Recently, the government introduced a church regulation bill. It is important that pastors like these are held accountable by the authorities. Such scams damage Christian faith and manipulate citizens,” he added.

On social media, reactions were mixed, with some users attributing the incident to witchcraft.

The bizarre occurrence comes shortly after a viral video from Nyamache, Kisii County, showed a graduate roaming the streets barefoot in her graduation gown, with some suggesting mental health issues and others alleging witchcraft involvement.
