Five Minutes With: Digital-Emo Band Spring Colours

Spring Colours is a chiptune, digital emo, noise-pop outfit from Toronto, Ontario. Their maximalist style offers effect-heavy guitars, noisy yet nostalgic synthesizers, and emotive lyrics mixed with catchy hooks and high-energy performances. Influenced by bands like Wolf Parade, Tokyo Police Club, and Fucked Up, Spring Colours writes music that mulls over their own existence and interpersonal relationships, all wrapped up in spry and dramatic arrangements.

Formed in late 2019 by Lukas Lyjak, Susie Ryu, and David Dellio, the band released their debut self-titled EP in March of 2020. With live performances held back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the band went back to writing new material, added Sean Mckenna and Amani Sabry to the roster, and released their second EP, ‘Loom’, in July of 2023. Since the release of Loom, Spring Colours has been playing shows throughout southern Ontario, releasing an additional single, ‘Loud Noises, Indoor Voices’ in September 2024, followed up by a re-recorded, remixed, and remastered version of their original EP. They’ve had the opportunity to open for a diverse array of touring bands, including Sparta, Frail Body, Heart To Gold, and Pet Symmetry.

They released their debut LP “The Courage Cloak” on March 27th, 2026, selling out a release show in the Toronto venue ‘Underground’, followed by an East Coast Canadian tour. Since the close of their tour, Spring Colours continues to write and perform new material, with no plan to silence the noise they started.

EP or LP?

Heavily genre-dependent, but I’d say on average: EPs win eyes, LPs win hearts.

Road or studio?

It’s looking like we’ll likely be going studio mode again soon, and it feels good to be thinking about going back.

We will be back playing shows come the fall and would love to see you there! They will be announced on all socials as they come out. Our debut album The Courage Cloak dropped in March of this year and is still ready and waiting for you to give it a go if you haven’t already. We think it’s pretty great.
