Isabella Durazo is a multidisciplinary artist from Mexico, currently based in Toronto, Canada. Her practice draws from personal and shared experiences of identity, memory, and diaspora, reflecting on nostalgia, longing for home, and the search for connection. Her work is deeply influenced by Mexican culture, music, food, and history. She finds beauty in the everyday, in her childhood home, street markets, urban landscapes, nature, and oceansides, transforming lived experiences into playful, colourful, and layered works that move between visual archives and digital media.
Through her distinct use of photography, video, graphic design, text, sound, music, and archival materials, Durazo creates works that invite viewers to engage with the Mexican experience and the complexities of cultural identity within the diaspora. Her practice seeks to keep cultural memories alive while challenging stereotypical, colonial, and misconceived representations of Mexican identity.
