Jamaican dancehall star Popcaan has secured a US visa, potentially clearing the way for him to perform in the country after years of travel restrictions.
His sister, known publicly as Unruly Squid, said the development was significant for the family, which has witnessed the effort he has put into building his music career.
Speaking to The Shade Room, she said the approval would give the musician an opportunity to connect with American fans who have supported his music but have been unable to see him perform live in the country.
“Pops has put so much into his career, and as family, we know firsthand what this journey has taken. So, to see another door open for him is something we don’t take lightly. America has a huge audience that loves and supports him, and I’m excited for the day those fans get to experience his energy in person,” she said.
Popcaan, who is signed to Drake’s OVO Sound label, has a following in the United States, where his music has reached listeners despite the restrictions that previously prevented him from touring there.
The visa approval opens the possibility of future American performances, although no concert dates or venues have been announced.
His team is expected to work on plans for upcoming projects as the entertainer looks to build on the development and reach more fans through live shows.
For now, his US performance schedule remains uncertain, with fans awaiting announcements on when he could take the stage in the country.
