A young man has sparked debate after angrily confronting political leaders he accused of turning his elder brother’s funeral into a platform for political campaigning.
In a viral video seen by TNX Africa, the grieving man, revealed that he had made a pact with his late brother, Terrence Chebii Kiptoon, that neither of their funerals would be used to advance political interests.
“When they were announcing political aspirants, the reason I came here is because I made a promise between me and Chebii. We made a promise that ule atatangulia wa kwanza, mwenye atakuwa wa mwisho ataensure the funeral will not have anything political. Will not be desecrated and spat on by this petty politics,” he said.

Visibly upset by the political remarks made during the burial service, he directed his anger at leaders and aspirants who had been given an opportunity to address mourners but allegedly used the platform to discuss politics.
“This is to everybody here who was given a chance to come on this stage to talk and decided to bring political issues. This is to you and you alone. Mnajijua! I would like you guys mnisamehe because the language I will use is (vulgar). I would like to say, f**k you genuinely!” he said before stepping down from the podium.
The incident occurred during the burial of Kiptoon, a fourth-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), who died following an accident.
He was laid to rest on October 9, 2026, in Uasin Gishu County.
The confrontation drew mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans defending the young man for objecting to political speeches during a family’s moment of grief, while others criticised his use of profanity at a funeral attended by elders and children.
Reports indicated that his parents later intervened to apologise to mourners following the outburst.
The incident has renewed online debate over the practice of politicians using funerals to address political issues, particularly as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
