Shettima leads delegation to Ethiopia for nutrition exchange

Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a historic government-to-government peer exchange focused on accelerating nutrition delivery.

Shettima was invited by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is leading the charge for the nation’s nutrition through a multi-sectoral approach.

This was disclosed by the VP’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

“As the head of Nigeria’s delegation, the Vice President will participate in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, a forum aimed at enabling key stakeholders to share experiences of building a federal, state and local compact on nutrition.

“During the visit, the Nigerian team will exchange experiences with Ethiopia on how a government-led plan can improve nutrition delivery, as well as tour key establishments dedicated to boosting nutrition delivery across the country,” the statement read.

Shettima will then visit a wheat farm and a banana plantation in Oromia; the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ Training Centre and household visits in Mojo; and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.

Among those in the VP’s entourage are Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi; the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu; among others.

After the engagements in Addis Ababa, Shettima will return to Abuja, the statement noted.

PUNCH Online reports that Shettima returned to Nigeria on September 28, 2026, after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

Shettima departed Abuja on September 20 after the President mandated him to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the annual global gathering.
