President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the Nigerian Army has operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states to strengthen security responses and bring troops closer to vulnerable communities.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, saying the development would improve the military’s ability to respond swiftly to threats against communities in the affected areas.
According to the President, the government is also fast-tracking the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while the project in Osun State has already been completed.
He said the measures were part of efforts to provide better support and infrastructure for members of the Armed Forces as they carry out their duties across the country.
“Over the past few days, servicemen and women of the Armed Forces have shared what the recent pay increase means for them and their families. I am glad it is making a difference,” Tinubu said.
He said the operationalisation of the new formations was an important step towards improving the military’s presence in communities facing security threats.
“Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” he said.
Tinubu also linked the ongoing construction of military facilities to the need to provide better working and living conditions for personnel.
“As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” he said.
The President noted that military service also placed a burden on the families of personnel, who remain at home while their loved ones are deployed.
“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” he said.
Tinubu, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said his administration would continue to provide the resources and support required by security personnel to perform their duties.
“As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” he said.
