Jackie Chan has become the subject of a fresh death hoax after social media posts falsely claimed that the veteran actor and martial artist had died at the age of 72.
The posts feature a black-and-white, memorial-style image of Chan carrying the dates “1954–2026”, leading some fans to believe that the Hong Kong-born star had passed away.
However, there is no credible report or official announcement confirming Chan’s death. Several news organisations have since identified the posts as a hoax.
The false reports have prompted fans to share messages of mourning and tributes online. One widely circulated version of the post reportedly attracted millions of views before it was flagged as misleading.
An X Community Note attached to one of the posts also disputed the claim, noting that the image had been styled as an obituary even though Chan remained alive and active.
There is also recent documented evidence of Chan appearing in public.
On July 7, 2026, the actor visited Pei Chun Public School in Singapore as part of an event organised by the Lim Family Foundation. He met more than 900 students and spoke about his childhood, early training and the importance of pursuing personal goals.
Chan has also remained involved in the entertainment industry and continues to work on upcoming projects.
Born Fang Shilong, Chan became one of the world’s best-known action stars through films that combined martial arts, stunts and comedy. His career includes popular movies such as Rush Hour, Police Story, Drunken Master and Shanghai Noon.
The latest rumour is not the first false report about the actor’s death. Similar death hoaxes involving Chan have circulated online in the past.
As of September 30, 2026, there is no credible evidence that Jackie Chan has died.
The viral “1954–2026” image is false, and his documented public appearance in Singapore earlier this year further contradicts the claim.
