Kenyan-US based nurse and content creator Judy Maina has shared an unusual complaint about her experience aboard an economy-class flight, claiming a fellow passenger had been passing gas repeatedly for almost the entire journey.

Judy took to her Instagram Stories to vent about the experience, joking about the contrast between economy and business class travel.

“Do they treat you differently in business class? I feel like upgrading mid-air,” she wrote.

She then revealed what had prompted the complaint, saying a passenger nearby had allegedly been passing gas for almost 10 hours.

“Because of the ghetto situation going on in economy right now… someone has been passing gas here for like 10 hours straight, until my stomach has bloated. It smells really bad,” she wrote.

Judy accompanied the post with laughing and crying emojis, appearing to share the uncomfortable experience with a humorous twist.

Her complaint drew reactions from social media users, with some sympathising with her while others joked about how she could have handled the situation.

@Coast Prince said he could relate to the experience.

“That’s a very concerning matter, I swear I am a victim,” he wrote.

Another user, @Henry Okari, jokingly suggested that Judy’s profession could have helped her deal with the situation.

“You are a nurse, so intervention could have been the most suitable approach,” he wrote.

Others, however, pointed out that passing gas is a normal bodily function and can happen involuntarily, particularly when people remain seated for extended periods.

“But passing gas is healthy,” @Benard Onjolo wrote.

Judy’s post highlighted one of the less glamorous challenges of long-haul economy travel, where passengers can spend several hours in a confined space with limited room to move around or escape an uncomfortable situation.

Judy, who hails from Nakuru and is based in the US, has built a following on social media through content about her nursing career, life in the US, motherhood and personal experiences.
