Kentucky is the musical project of Canadian singer-songwriter and producer Jordan Holman, based in Almonte, Ontario, at his home and studio known as The Kentucky Bend. The unique sound of his music originates from a blend and reimagining of Rock, Ambient, Pop, Blues, and Singer-Songwriter, but the distinctive result is, by all accounts, his own genre: Northern Americana. Fans of Gord Downie, Patti Smith, Tolstoy, Tom Petty, or Brian Eno would all find something for themselves here. Kentucky returned to the road and listeners on Canada Day, July 1st, with his latest single “In Kingston Tonight”, a song that celebrates and carries forward the musical legacy of Kingston, Canada, and The Tragically Hip. The release day was highlighted by Kentucky’s headlining show at Hardy Park in downtown Brockville, ON, and he will continue across the country until NYE with a series of unique and uniquely Canadian tours and shows.

Night owl, but my beloved children cause me to be both.

Road or studio?

Impossible! The way of the road is my natural state of being. That’s where I feel “normal”, if such a thing is possible. The studio is an infinite playground of growth and challenge where I feel pushed to my maximum while at the same time bursting through it, over and over again.

Any shows or albums coming up?

Well, I’m pretty interested in getting my new single “In Kingston Tonight” to as many ears as possible. I know just how many people in Canada are as thankful as I am to The Hip and Kingston. I’ve got lots of shows coming up…everything from a long, stretched-out tour of Legions in Ontario to commemorate their 100th anniversary and the changes in their organization and in our country at the grassroots….a tour-by-boat of the Trent-Severn Waterway in September…a month-long musical residency at The Cove in Westport, Ontario…a tour-by-train with VIA Rail in December…and more!

What is your favourite local restaurant?

What is your favourite street in your city and why?

Oh, Baldwin Street for sure. I got signed to Universal in 2006, and our band moved across the country from Alberta. We got to our place at the intersection of Baldwin and whatever-it-is in the heart of Kensington Market and discovered it was a quarter of the size our landlord had told us. We drove our moving truck to Value Village and gave away all our furniture, bought hammocks, and hung them up from the ceiling…and then started to infiltrate Toronto with our rock and roll. What a time it was.

What is your favourite park in your city and why?

All of Toronto Island. You gotta take a boat to get there, you can play baseball, get a meal, fish, swim, get nude at Hanlan’s. What more could you want?

What is your favourite music venue in your city?

It’s still got to be the Horseshoe. What a legend! I’ve had some of my favourite nights of my life there, both on and off the stage. It’s commemorated in song, it’s got the worst green room ever (or did)…I just love it.
