Stoopid Boy, the Gengetone rapper whose hit song made him a viral sensation, was laid to rest in a quiet ceremony attended by a group of family members, friends and fans.

Born Edgar Waititu Odhiambo, the Gengetone star was buried on September 16 at his mother’s home in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, weeks after his death. 

His sendoff followed a family dispute that briefly brought his funeral arrangements to a halt.

The rapper’s burial had been thrown into uncertainty days earlier after his father, George William Ochieng Awili, moved to court seeking to have his son buried in Alego, Siaya, the family’s ancestral home.

His father told reporters that Stoopid Boy had repeatedly expressed a wish to be buried in Siaya. A court injunction subsequently halted the planned burial, triggering a dispute with the rapper’s maternal family, who wanted him laid to rest in Kipipiri, where his mother lives and where his elder brother was buried in May 2026.

The dispute delayed the funeral as relatives on both sides sought a resolution. The matter was eventually withdrawn and the court order lifted, paving the way for the burial in Nyandarua.

During the dispute, Stoopid Boy’s mother appealed for calm as the family mourned. 

She also defended comedian Oga Obinna against online claims linking him to her son’s death, saying such allegations were unfair while the family was still grieving.

“As you all are aware, there was a court case, and that case is what had barred us from making burial arrangements for our son. And we were not able to pick up his body or even raise money,” his mother said in an interview with a local news site.

“And that is when we decided, because Stoopid Boy has stayed here in the mortuary for almost a month, we thought we should rush the burial,” she added.

The family also received financial assistance from a well-wisher identified as Stazo, who helped settle the mortuary bill and paid for the vehicle that transported the body.

“He paid the mortuary bill and even paid for the burial vehicle,” his mother added.

Oga Obinna also supported the family by helping them secure a coffin for the late artiste.

“And I also want to thank Oga Obinna for aiding with getting the coffin,” she said.

At the burial, attention was also drawn to Stoopid Boy’s two young children, who were introduced near their father’s coffin during the emotional ceremony.

Before the send-off, Oga Obinna had publicly spoken about his relationship with Stoopid Boy and called for an organised effort to support the family with funeral expenses.

He urged well-wishers to channel their contributions through music producer King Pheezle and the rapper’s manager, Castro.

For an artiste whose music had travelled widely online and whose name became familiar to thousands through his viral hit, Stoopid Boy’s final journey was strikingly subdued, with the crowds and industry attention associated with his viral fame largely absent from his burial.
