Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken his political engagements beyond Kenya’s borders, arriving in the United States for an extended tour that will see him interact with Kenyans living and working across several states.

Gachagua, accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, arrived in Spokane, Washington, on September 4, marking the beginning of the diaspora leg of his US tour.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader to meet Kenyans, listen to their concerns and discuss Kenya’s political and economic future.

Gachagua and Dorcas were welcomed in Spokane as he began the first scheduled block of his diaspora engagements. The Spokane programme is expected to run until September 10, before he moves to Portland, Oregon.

The former DP has said the tour is intended to bring him closer to Kenyans living abroad and create an avenue for discussions on issues affecting the country, as well as the diaspora’s contribution to Kenya’s development.

The US visit comes against the backdrop of Gachagua’s continued efforts to strengthen his political network ahead of the 2027 General Election.

 His itinerary includes engagements in Portland, Kansas, Dallas and Boston, with the tour expected to last until October.

The former DP has previously held diaspora meetings in the US, including town-hall style engagements where he described Kenyans abroad as candid, hardworking and willing to speak openly about the country’s affairs.

Gachagua’s latest US visit follows his extensive 2025 diaspora tour, during which he travelled through several states and met Kenyans at community gatherings.

 In Seattle, he held his first official diaspora engagement and later opened a DCP satellite office.

His 2025 engagements also took him to Los Angeles, where he discussed issues including healthcare, security, economic growth, infrastructure and education.

The latest tour places the Kenyan diaspora firmly within Gachagua’s political outreach strategy. With Kenyans living abroad increasingly viewed as an important constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
