Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri has clarified an incident along the Nairobi Expressway that sparked concern online after footage appeared to show a group of men surrounding a white  vehicle, with some social media users describing them as goons attacking motorists.

Karauri said the men seen in the widely circulated footage were not goons, but fellow motorists who had stopped to assist him after his vehicle developed a problem.

The MP explained that he was the white car at the centre of the incident and that the situation had been misinterpreted after the video circulated on social media.

According to Karauri, his car door had developed a problem, prompting other motorists who noticed him to stop and offer assistance.

“I  what to clarify the incident that happened along express way because I have seen a video circulation online, actually I was the person in the white car,my door had developed a problem it wasn’t locking and I felt unsafe we had to pull over and solve the issue.”said Karauri.

What appeared in the footage as a possible confrontation was therefore a group of road users trying to help a fellow motorist.

His clarification comes amid heightened concerns over highway security, with motorists increasingly worried about reports of criminals targeting vehicles and passengers on major roads.

The footage had initially generated alarm, with many Kenyans questioning how motorists could be surrounded on a busy road in broad daylight.

The incident also revived conversations about the safety of motorists using the Nairobi Expressway and other major highways.

However, Karauri’s account has provided a different context to the viral footage, cautioning against drawing conclusions from short clips without establishing what actually happened.

The incident highlights how quickly videos shared online can create a particular narrative before all the facts are known.
