Before Kipchumba Murkomen, Kenya’s powerful Interior and national security docket had passed through the hands of several political heavyweights, military men and technocrats, under titles that changed with successive constitutional and administrative arrangements.

Since 2003, the ministry has been headed by Christopher Murungaru, John Michuki, George Saitoti, Yusuf Haji,  Joseph Ole Lenku, Joseph Nkaissery, Fred Matiang’i and Kithure Kindiki, each leaving a distinct imprint on the country’s security landscape.
