Kenyan content creator Sheryl Gabriella is facing immense backlash online after appealing for financial support towards the burial of her late father.
Netizens camped on her social media post with unpalatable comments, calling her out following her past statements involving what she termed “broke girlfriends.”
Her financial appeal came weeks after she spoke boldly about her earnings and financial independence.
While her supporters argue that seeking financial support does not contradict being financially independent, others linked the appeal directly to her earlier comments about women struggling financially.
In a past viral video, Sheryl had hit back at critics, saying, “First of all, this girl alone, in a month, from brand endorsements I earn more than half a million.” She dismissed claims that wealthy men finance her lifestyle and insisted that she has built her income independently.
She also urged people to stop comparing her with “broke girls,” attributing her lifestyle to hard work and multiple income streams.
Speaking in an interview last month, Sheryl said: “I can live in a house worth Sh 200,000 and pay my bills without any help. I will still survive. Everything I do intimately is not to survive. I do not sleep with men to survive.”
To support her claims, she disclosed some of her earnings, saying one of the companies she works with pays her Sh 350,000 every month, while another pays her Sh 130,000 for a single promotional video.
She added that her lowest-paying partnership earns her Sh 60,000 per month.
However, this was not the first time Sheryl had spoken publicly about her finances.
In 2024, she revealed that she had saved Sh 110,000, while in 2025, she claimed to have earned Sh 244,000 from TikTok gifts.
In her latest appeal, Sheryl however spared a post for those who contributed, saying she “sees you, appreciate you, and will forever be grateful.”
“To everyone who contributed, no matter how much you gave, please know that it meant so much to me and my family. Every contribution, every prayer, and every kind word is much appreciated,” she wrote on Instagram.
