The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has backed the proposed establishment of state police, describing it as a welcome policy that must, however, be implemented in line with due process and existing regulations.

Oyebamiji spoke on Tuesday during the ongoing town hall meeting for candidates in the August 15 Osun governorship election organised by Arise TV, where he said his administration would abide by whatever framework is eventually established for state policing.

“Well, state police, I think, is a good policy. It is a welcome policy, but one thing that is important is that there is a process, and that if that process is followed, in governance, it is always about the institution. It is about process, it is about rules, it is about regulations,” he said.

Oyebamiji said his party and government would support the policy as long as its implementation followed the established process.

“Whatever is embedded in that process, we are going to abide with it, and we are going to welcome it. Our government, our party, it is a party of people that knows what they are doing by antecedent,” he added.

The APC candidate further linked his position to what he described as the performance of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

“And you can see the difference, even from at the federal government. This country has been rated as 4-star country now, via the policies of our father, our president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Oyebamiji said.

“For me, it’s a good policy, and we are going to follow, and going to implement and interpret whatever is in that manual book.”
