President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto welcomed family members, friends and guests to the traditional engagement and farewell ceremony of their daughter, Charlene Ruto.

The colourful event, known as Koito ak Chaik, took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris Town, Naserian Village, Narok County.

The ceremony attracted many political leaders, business people, relatives and other high-profile guests. Apart from witnessing the important cultural event, many visitors have also used the occasion to display their best African-inspired fashion.

Among those who attracted attention were Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o.

The two arrived wearing matching brown suits inspired by traditional African designs. They were accompanied by an associate, adding a coordinated touch to their appearance.

Women at the ceremony dressed in colourful outfits, including bright dresses, flowing gowns and stylish kitenge designs.

Many completed their looks with matching accessories, bold patterns and traditional beads. Their outfits added colour and elegance to the celebrations.

The men also brought their own style to the event. Some wore African-inspired suits, while others chose modern formal clothes.

Many guests were seen in cowboy hats, creating a unique mix of African fashion and contemporary style.

Images from the venue showed many high-end vehicles and several helicopters at the ranch as guests arrived in pomp and glory for the ceremony. The large number of visitors highlighted the importance and popularity of the event.

Charlene Ruto and her bridesmaids were also seen at the venue. The bridal team followed a coordinated green theme. The bridesmaids wore matching vegetation-green dresses, while Charlene stood out in an elegant green-and-gold outfit.

Koito ak Chaik is a traditional Kalenjin ceremony held before marriage. It allows the families of the couple to come together formally.

During the ceremony, elders offer blessings, advice and goodwill as the bride prepares to begin a new chapter of her life.

Charlene is expected to marry Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge, who is known as a businessman and social-impact innovator.

As guests enjoyed Kalenjin songs, dances and other cultural activities, the ceremony celebrated African identity, as love and fashion took centre stage.
