Protesters gathered across Washington, D.C., to demonstrate against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his recent visit to the United States.
Activists followed his movements through the city, crowding his motorcade, gathering outside the White House and disrupting a dinner at a restaurant in Georgetown.
“Bibi, Bibi, you can’t hide! You’re committing genocide!” the protesters chanted in unison.
Videos reviewed by TNX Africa showed demonstrators accusing Netanyahu of committing genocide in Gaza and branding him a war criminal.
The protests drew a broad coalition of groups, including Palestinian rights activists, Christian organisations and anti-Zionist Orthodox Jewish groups such as Neturei Karta.
The demonstrators called on US authorities to enforce the arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu by the International Criminal Court.
They also demanded an immediate end to American military and financial support for Israel, citing the mounting civilian death toll and worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Netanyahu travelled to Washington to attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham and hold talks with President Donald Trump.
Their discussions reportedly focused on Iran, the war in Gaza and proposed trade tariffs. His visit, however, unfolded amid widespread public protests and reports of tensions between the US and Israeli leadership over regional strategy.
While figures such as New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani joined calls for Netanyahu’s arrest, Trump assured the Israeli leader he would not be detained while in the United States.
The current Israel-Hamas war began on October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. According to the BBC, Israel responded by declaring war and launching a large-scale military offensive.
Although the latest conflict erupted in 2023, it stems from years of hostilities following Hamas’ takeover of Gaza in 2007, alongside the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict that dates back to 1948.
The war has claimed more than 74,500 lives, according to figures from both sides. Gaza health authorities say 73,335 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed, while UN agencies estimate that about 10,000 more remain missing beneath the rubble.
Although a ceasefire framework was agreed in October 2025, continued clashes have reportedly killed more than 1,200 Palestinians since it took effect.
On the Israeli side, the October 7 attack killed 1,195 people, including 815 civilians. Israel’s Ministry of Defense says a further 1,152 security personnel and soldiers have died during the military campaign.
