Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has dismissed speculations of a rift between him and filmmaker Funke Akindele, explaining why she was absent from his wedding.
Makinde made this clarification in an interview with TVC, shared via Instagram on Friday, following questions from fans about Akindele’s absence from the ceremony.
Addressing the speculation, the actor said there was no issue between them.
“To be honest, I’ve addressed this over and over again. There’s no problem,” he said.
Makinde explained that Akindele was occupied with promoting one of her films around the time of his wedding.
“Her not coming to my wedding is totally understandable. It was a period when she was promoting her film and, to be honest, we all know how it is when she’s promoting her film. She takes her craft seriously, so it’s very understandable,” he said.
He added that it was unrealistic to expect every invited guest to attend.
“Not everybody you invite to your wedding is going to come. I mean, not everybody I invited came. So there’s no problem in that department,” he said.
The actor also expressed gratitude to Akindele for her contribution to his career.
“That’s somebody who has contributed immensely to my career. It’s not all our films that are being made. That’s what growth is about,” he added.
The interview also generated reactions from Instagram users, with many backing Makinde’s explanation and criticising attempts to fuel speculation.
A user identified on Instagram as #abb.ydek wrote, “Media, do better. Stop asking sterile questions just to fuel speculation. He has already granted an interview where he clearly stated there is no feud between him and Auntie. Not every narrative needs to be forced.”
Another Instagram user, #iamoluwakemisolalove, commented, “Make una rest abeg. The fact that someone does not attend your wedding does not mean they don’t like you. Make everybody grow.”
Also reacting, #seunie_xoxo wrote, “‘Someone who has contributed greatly to my career’ that’s enough for me.”
