A Boeing 727-100 once linked to Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar has been transformed into a stationary rental property in Bristol, England, offering guests a budget-friendly taste of 1980s-style luxury.

The wingless, engine-less fuselage now operates as a themed Airbnb, costing about Sh12,961 ($100) per person and accommodating up to four guests, giving visitors a chance to experience a rare slice of aviation history.

According to Robb Report, the aircraft’s unusual journey from decommissioned jet to boutique stay began when British businessman Johnny Palmer found the shell in an aircraft graveyard.

It had been out of service since 2012 before he transported it to his property and began restoration.

Palmer initially saw it as a family project.

However, he later expanded its scope after recognising its commercial appeal as a themed stay and photoshoot venue.

Restoration work took two years and focused on recreating its original 1980s aesthetic.

“I originally bought the Boeing just as a fun toy for my family to have sleepovers with the kids,” Palmer said.

“There are loads of commercial aircraft restoration projects, but this is the only business jet in the world. Everything was there, and we did a proper restoration job, so it looks like it never left the ‘80s.”

The interior retains leather seating and includes gold-plated shower fittings and toilets, alongside modern additions such as plumbing, lighting, flat-screen televisions, a fully equipped kitchen and an illuminated cockpit designed to simulate a fast getaway.

The exterior has also been brightly decorated with artwork, with Palmer adding that guests are drawn to the novelty and immersive experience.

“There’s a bit of role-playing going on. People enjoy living the billionaire fantasy for a while and then returning to their normal lives,” he said.

On social media, the unusual Airbnb drew mixed reactions.

On Instagram, user Foreigno wrote, “This is definitely on my bucket list.”

Another user, Suav, commented, “Such an interesting flex.”
