A viral video showing a robbery attempt has triggered debate among Kenyans online, coming at a time of rising concern over insecurity incidents in Nairobi.

In the clip seen by TNX Africa, two young men enter a shop and approach a man seated at the counter. The duo, dressed in black masks, caps and jackets, appear to confront the man, who immediately stands up.

One of the suspects is seen moving around the counter area while the other engages the man. Moments later, one of them produces what appears to be a gun and attempts to strike the man, but misses.

Sensing danger, the man fights back, grabbing for the weapon and striking the attackers as he blocks them from accessing the counter area. The struggle continues briefly before the man gains the upper hand, forcing the suspects to flee.

CCTV footage from inside and outside the shop shows the man chasing the assailants towards a muddy road as the clip ends.

The video has since drawn mixed reactions on social media.

On X, Carlton Kitheka claimed, “These guys tried to rob my bro Maliks today at his shop in South C today morning .My dawgie is safe but it was crazy.Y’all please be safe.”

Another user, Otieno Ooyi, called for action from authorities, writing, “@DCI_Kenya do we have a country here ama tuseme tuko SA? Buana @WilliamsRuto we can’t let these unfold in front of our eyes.@kipmurkomen @ray_omollo goons and the thugs have to be dealt with.”

Bob added, “I guess it was a toy pistol, I wish he had a weapon of his own.”

The incident comes shortly after Bingo Computers owner Moses Mwangi suffered a major loss after thieves raided his store, stealing electronics worth more than Sh16 million.

Video evidence seen by TNX Africa shows the robbery was carefully planned long before the suspects entered the premises.

CCTV footage at Twiga Towers captured a man, believed to be the group’s leader, calmly engaging security personnel shortly before the attack.

Initially, guards appeared relaxed and unaware of any threat, but their behaviour reportedly changed about an hour later. They seemed disoriented and appeared intoxicated or drugged before eventually collapsing.

Once inside, the suspects systematically packed electronic items, even unboxing high-end computers to maximise space in their bags.

The gang is said to have stolen more than 500 laptops, over 100 phones, mostly iPhones, alongside other electronics.
