Nakuru governor Susan Kihika has taken to social media to celebrate the first birthday of her twin sons with a series of candid, never-before-seen photos.
Kihika posted images of Jay and Jon on Facebook, offering a rare glimpse into her private life as she reflected on what she described as a year of “immeasurable joy” and deep gratitude.

In an emotional message, she recounted the moment she and her partner brought the boys home amid public scrutiny, crediting close family and friends for standing by them.
“Exactly one year ago today, Sam & I came back home with our precious bundles of joy (Jay & Jon) accompanied by family and wonderful friends who sacrificed their time and resources to assist us in getting the boys home amidst so much ‘noise’, yet they surrounded us with so much unconditional love!”
She described the past year as one filled with affection and growth within her household, noting the role her older children, Tiffany, Jesse, Ashley and Abby have played in raising their younger siblings.
“It’s been a year of immeasurable joy, lots of hugs and kisses and intense love in our household, I wouldn’t trade it for anything!”
Kihika also used the moment to publicly thank a circle of women leaders she credited with offering steadfast support during a challenging period.

Among those she named were Millicent Omanga, Irene Njoki, Veronica Maina and Rahab Mukami, whom she described as her “ride-or-die” support system. She also extended special appreciation to Cecily Mbarire, saying her support was instrumental during the period.
“Accept your flowers, feel appreciated, and always know that I love you to infinity. You are the family that I got to choose. You are special and forever appreciated. Without you, I am not sure we would have had a success story. You are a true sister,” she wrote.

In the photos, Kihika was captured alongside the women leaders, some in first-class flight cabins, and others in what appeared to be exquisitely furnished houses, details that would not be lost on the average Nakuru County citizen.
In one particular photo, she is lined up with friends and family, notably her husband Sam Mburu, outside her US home, with cars and what seems like a security detail in the background.
In another set of photos, Kihika, Mburu and close family members were captured inside a yacht with birthday props decorated in blue and white, with everyone donned in royal white outfits, akin to Western business moguls on vacation.

Kihika welcomed her twin sons in 2025, a development that drew significant public attention and debate across political and social spaces.
While she largely kept details of her pregnancy and early motherhood private, the period was marked by intense scrutiny, particularly around her time away from official duties.

Kihika previously defended her decision to give birth in the United States, saying she sought privacy and did not want to be attended to by junior doctors familiar to her.
The governor has, however, since resumed her role while occasionally sharing glimpses of her family life.

She has lately been on the campaign trail, seeking another term to ‘complete the work she began.’
Kihika has also been on the offensive in campaigning for President William Ruto’s reelection, often taking opposition figures head-on in a bid to sway Nakuru ahead of 2027.
