Carolyne DeMathew, the widow of late Kikuyu music legend John DeMathew, has taken a new step in her life and is now officially engaged to a new partner a move that has stirred both admiration and quiet controversy online.
According to her, choosing to love again after loss is never easy. However, life moves forward, and so does the heart.
Carolyne DeMathew, who was John DeMathew’s second wife, has sparked mixed reactions after a video circulating on social media showed her in a decorated hotel setting alongside a man, with a caption suggesting she has entered a new relationship about six years after her husband’s death.
In one of her posts, she wrote, ’’officially nimetoka hizo soko za matakataka.Love on my side again’’.
While some netizens have celebrated her for finding love again, others have revisited her past marriage, reigniting debate around her position in the polygamous union and whether enough time has passed.
One social media user asked her now since she has moved on ,she needs to drop DE Mathews name.
John DeMathew was a celebrated Kikuyu Benga artist who died in 2019 following a tragic road accident along Thika Super Highway. He was widely regarded as a “Kikuyu prophet” due to the coded messages in his music, many of which were believed to come to pass.
De’Mathew was married to two wives, Sarafina Wairimû and Caroline Waithera, with whom he had seven children. Both wives described him as a loving and supportive husband, as well as a present father who cared deeply for his family.
He composed his first song while in Standard Seven, launching his professional career in December 1986 with the single Jenifer, supported by musicians Timona Mbûrû and Joseph Wamûmbe. His second release, My Dear Ndukû (1987), became a major hit and propelled him into the limelight.
Some of the standout tracks that earned John DeMathew widespread recognition include My dear Ndukû, his breakthrough hit in 1987, Njata Yakwa, and Pin Number.
