A’Ibom gov releases ₦123.5bn for 167km of road projects

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the release of N123.5 billion for contractors handling newly approved and ongoing road projects across the state.

The disclosure was contained in a statement dated April 10, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.

According to the statement, the approval followed the State Executive Council’s nod for new road projects as well as the continuation of existing ones. It added that the funds would cover multiple financial obligations tied to the projects.

“The sum of ₦123.5 billion” was approved “for the payment of mobilisation fees, right-of-way compensation, and the settlement of due Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) to contractors handling various road projects in the State,” the statement read.

The government explained that the projects span more than 167 kilometres of roads across different parts of the state. Key projects listed include the Ikwe–Odio Road; the six-lane dualisation of Nnung Udoe–Afaha Offiong–Afaha Nsit with a rotary intersection; the dualisation of Afaha Offiong–Ikot Imoh–Itreto; and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Okorete–Iko Road, which includes two mini bridges in Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas.

Providing a breakdown of the funds, the statement noted that “₦69 billion is earmarked for newly awarded projects, while ₦54.5 billion has been released to service outstanding IPCs and additional works on existing projects.”

It further explained that the timely release of funds is aimed at boosting construction activities across the state.

“The essence of this payment is to encourage contractors handling the various projects to take full advantage of the construction season and deploy all necessary resources to ensure the timely completion of the projects within the agreed timeframe,” the statement added.

The government noted that the move underscores Eno’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly in line with the administration’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritises expansion and improvement of critical road networks across the state.
