After a chaotic confrontation outside Parliament, Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit has dared Senator Edwin Sifuna to a “man-to-man” fight, branding him a “goon” and a “stupid guy” following an alleged physical assault.

“I am ready to face Sifuna as a man,” Lelelit declared. “In fact, not only one; I need the three of you to square this out.”

In a clip that has now made rounds on various social media platforms, shows Governor Lati Lelelit who had visited Parliament seeking an audience with Senate leadership following an arrest warrant issued by the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) over his repeated failure to appear before it, before chaos erupted.

Lelelit has further claimed that his life is in danger after an alleged assault by senators outside Senate, over skipped summons and contempt claims.

Lelelit’s attempt to meet the Senate leadership, however, did not come to fruition, forcing him to leave the premises. Moments later, he decided to addressed the media outside Parliament to explain his absence from committee proceedings.

The briefing was immediately interrupted when a group of senators confronted him heads-on, escalating tensions and leading to the alleged assault as he ran away seemingly being chased.

He has dared the three specific senators who manhandled him to face him man to man, calling them ‘goons’, “I did not even know that those senators were coming, I was even friendly, asked them what was wrong…I realized they were no good when one of them from that stupid guy Sifuna touched my coat…I am ready to face Sifuna as a man, in fact not only one, i need the three of you, we square this out”

Netizens quickly jumped to social media expressing their views with others mocking the incident and others condemning it,

@mashinaniman posted, “Being forced to submit to senate scrutiny for accountability is now an existential threat?”, @Nyamuya1 commented, “But you had 10 bodyguards protecting you against Sifuna. Umeogopa. Resources of poor people in Samburu must be accounted for”, and @KisuyaKwoba96432, asked, “Why were you running?”

The incident comes amid rising political temperature in the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, as witnessed also during the recent ODM NDC, held by two different party factions, ODM Linda Mwananchi and ODM Linda Ground.
