Sammy Kioko’s sister, Maureen Mwende Mutua, has issued a formal apology to Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti in a move toward reconciliation.
In the video uploaded by Wavinya on X, the Movata fashion and design director began by addressing the issue over their unpaid Sh19 million dues.
The controversy, which had recently gained traction on social media, recently led to the dramatic arrest of Sammy Kioko who led a protest at the county headquarters.
He was later admitted in hospital after sustaining injuries. However, the tone shifted from confrontation to diplomacy as the Governor hosted the family to broker a peaceful resolution.
“Regarding the issue that has been going on about our pending bill, today we were privileged to have visited the governor of Machakos, Wavinya Ndeti. We are at her residence together with my parents. We had a discussion regarding the matter and after listening, at least she has committed to ensure everything is paid and protocols followed,” Maureen said.
The Movata designs director acknowledged that they would have handled the payment dispute in a different way and apologised for it.

“We want to say, we know me and my brother we went online and expressed ourselves and this did not follow the protocol. I just want to say we are sorry. Maybe that was the only way we could express our frustrations, by now we know better. I just want to say thank you for hosting us today,” she said.
Maureen called out Kenyans who had politicised the matter stating that their role was to follow up on their payment and no political motivation behind it.
“Let us not ride with something that is not there. If you have your differences with mama, that’s on you. For us, we were following up on our payment. Nothing more, nothing much,” Maureen concluded.
On X, Governor Ndeti praised the fashion director for taking the bold step to resolve the matter that has been trending since last year.
“Maureen, my dear, all will be well. Mama is proud of your courage and maturity to resolve this matter amicably,” she wrote. Wavinya also assured them that they would receive their pending payment.
Thank you, Maureen, for bringing this matter to light and for your clarity. The matter was politicised, and I am pleased that the issue has now been amicably resolved and the payment will be made in accordance with the established procedures. pic.twitter.com/EpcZx1lZw3

“We had an open and productive conversation, and I want to assure the public that Movata Designs will be paid as per the procedures in accordance with the established procedures. This ensures that all payments are handled transparently, fairly, and in line with the law,” Ndeti asserted.
This comes hours after the Machakos Governor responded to comedian Sammy Kioko’s claims over pending supplier payments, outlining the county’s position in a statement on X.
She voiced concern regarding the health of comedian Sammy Kioko and addressed the escalating situation emphasizing that her administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward violence and called for calm.
Regarding the financial disagreement, Ndeti clarified that the contract for Inspectorate department uniforms was technically handled by Movata Designs, a firm associated with the comedian. However, she pointed out that Kioko himself is not listed as a registered supplier for Machakos County.
“Our records indicate that Mr. Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier of the County Government of Machakos. The entity that supplied Inspectorate uniforms is Movata Designs,” she said.
