Former Cabinet Minister Raphael Tuju has resurfaced after going missing for nearly 24 hours, revealing he went into hiding over fears for his safety.
Speaking on Monday, March 23, Tuju said he decided after noticing he was being trailed by suspicious, unmarked vehicles in Nairobi.
According to him, the ordeal began on Friday evening when a vehicle started following him, prompting him to report the matter at Karen Police Station.
However, the situation escalated the following day when the same vehicle, this time without number plates, allegedly resumed tailing him as he headed for a radio interview at a vernacular station.
Fearing for his life, Tuju said he used his familiarity with the Karen area to evade the vehicle before abandoning his car and going into hiding.

“I noticed I was being followed before and reported it to the authorities. On Saturday, as I was going for an interview at Ramogi FM, I noticed the same vehicle from before following me, only this time without plate numbers. Fortunately, I know Karen well and branched into Nandi Road, lost the tail, and abandoned my car,” he said in a presser.
He later sought refuge at a private home near the Nairobi–Kiambu border, where he stayed until resurfacing.
Tuju explained he avoided police stations after the incident, claiming he suspected those trailing him could be linked to security agencies.
His disappearance had sparked widespread concern after his family reported him missing on Sunday, March 22, when they were unable to reach him and his phone remained switched off.
Authorities had earlier confirmed that his vehicle had been found abandoned in Karen, triggering speculation and political reactions, with some leaders alleging possible abduction.
The incident comes against the backdrop of Tuju’s ongoing legal and property disputes, which have seen him raise concerns over his personal security in recent weeks.
