American pop star Doja Cat’s father, Dumisani Dlamini, has broken his silence after being called out by the ‘Say So’ hitmaker for failing to attend her highly anticipated South African concert.
The fallout began after the 30-year-old singer posted a TikTok video titled The Deadbeat Chronicles, claiming she had invited Dlamini to her performance but he declined, citing a busy schedule.
Refusing to let the snub slide, Doja Cat leaned into her trademark trolling persona, pranking her father by redirecting him to an adult website.
The ‘Paint the Town Red’ singer has previously spoken about her strained relationship with her father.
Responding to the now-viral TikTok, Dlamini shared his side of the story in a since-deleted Instagram post.
He alleged that Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, had been influenced by her mother, Deborah Sawyer, shaping her perception of him as an absent parent.
“That white woman brainwashed my baby into thinking I had left her. I never left my child,” he said in part, adding that he considers himself “a man of integrity and respect.”
Dlamini also claimed he supported Sawyer and her children before they had two more together, insisting his role in the family has been misrepresented.
“My reputation as a good man cannot be destroyed,” he said, further alleging that key parts of the story have been left out.
He also claimed that despite attending the South African concert, he was ultimately removed from the venue.
Dlamini is best known for his role in the 1992 film Sarafina!.
The public fallout has sparked mixed reactions online, with fans split on the family dispute. Some expressed sympathy for Dlamini, while others criticised what they described as a familiar pattern of absentee parenting.
